Sunday sees the final day of operation for Stagecoach Manchester's Glossop depot. Originally opened as a North Western Road Car Company base in 1927, it has been used by Stagecoach since 1996. All services will be moved to down the road to the Ashton-under-Lyne depot which was opened last year.
Most of Stagecoach's Tameside services are now based at Ashton. Many services, including the frequent 216 (Manchester - Ashton), were transferred from Hyde Road depot in Manchester in the autumn. A benefit of the closure of the Glossop depot is that there will be extra early morning and evening journeys on services 236 and 237 from Ashton to Glossop along with some peak time tweaks.
The changes at Glossop are part of a wider modernisation plan at Stagecoach Manchester. The company's Princess Road depot in Moss Side is due to be closed and replaced by a new facility in Sharston next year.
