WBT puns itself greener
Okay, we know Warrington isn't in Greater Manchester, but Warrington Borough Transport run services to Altrincham and Leigh so we'll cover this nevertheless.
WBT have started a campaign to push its environmental credentials. Called 'Our Routes Grow Trees' (see what they did there, eh?), it sees a tree planted in India, Tanzania or Kenya for every WBT Savercard sold throughout March, April and May. According to the Manchester Evening News today, Savercard sales have doubled since the scheme launched.
Planting trees to look green isn't a new idea. Among other companies with similar ideas, HSBC recently began planting trees when customers chose to stop receiving paper bank statements. Companies are facing increasing obligations to be greener. Sometimes that's due to changes in the law and sometimes it's simply because being 'green' can create goodwill with the public.
In addition to the tree scheme, WBT have invested £8m in new low-emission vehicles. Hopefully these moves will help the people of Warrington see buses as a more environmental friendly way to get around.
